After a fun 24 hours in Boston, it was time to board the plane to Rome with the rest of my new friends. I was a bit apprehensive going in. I'm not the greatest flier (read: I go into panic attacks), and this was my first impression with them. Upon boarding the plane I find myself seated next to one of the girls on the trip. We chit chat and the pilot begins speaking, and this is the first and hopefully last time this trip my Italian fails me so badly. I thought he had said that three hours into the flight we may hit some turbulence. "Fine", I thought. I'll try to pass out before then and I won't even know it. WRONG. Wrong. Wroooooong. He meant for the first THREE HOURS OF THE EIGHT HOUR FLIGHT THERE WOULD BE TURBULENCE. The rest of the flight is blocked out but quite honestly I think it may have cured my fear of flying. If that old and janky Alitalia jet didn't fall out of the sky after three hours of that nightmare, I don't know if anything could.
Plane rides were over, and we had arrived in Palermo. We took a bus to nearby Trapani, a beautiful beach town. Trapani is sort of like Ascoli in that it is small and adorable, but has the added bonus of a beach right on either side of you. On our first full day we took a trip to the mountain town Erice and made pastries! That night I found a strip of beach that was perfect for some sunset yoga, which definitely perplexed the locals. Today we took a day long cruise along the nearby islands. We toured an old tuna factory, which was.... interesting? Then we swam in the ocean which was obviously amazing. We have a couple more days in Sicilia and as much as I am loving it, I cannot wait to get to Ascoli.
Sunset in Trapani... #wayyyyupifeelblessed
YES there is a chocolate gelato stain on my shirt.
It's definitely going to be strange going back to Ascoli and living there for a bit. Some things will be the same - same apartment, same trip to Momma's for pizza every day, same kinder gelato -- but more will be different. More people, different program, no Kels and Meredith. It's going to take some getting used to but overall I am so happy to be going back. I'll update at the end of our Sicily trip! A dopo!
